We have earlier posted about customs formalities for International export,this post will guide for international importing.You have to pass customs formalities,Blue dart will guide you with necessary documents.For international import there 2 types of customs applied,these are :

  1. Courier-on-Board (COB) Imports : For quick courier import India government introduced Regulation 87/98 (formerly known as 35/95).The regulation stipulates that:
      • The Courier company should be an authorized courier, which is pre registered with the customs and bound by certain requisite obligations.
      • The courier shipment arrive the terminal.
      • The courier company carry these items as by rules :

I Documents :  These documents scanned by xray machine and then get custom clearance. mis-declaration.e of any non-documents will lead penalty.

II Gifts and Samples : The Courier Imports Regulations permits Free clearance of Gifts and Samples valued up to Indian Rupees 10,000/ and not more than that.
III All other shipments : Any other shipments for different category should have proper invoice and bills.Each and every shipment manually checked by customs authorities before clearance. Item details is necessary from the shipper or it will take time to deliver.

Customs Assessment
All imported shipments are assessed by customs on a CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) basis only.

FOB (Free On Board): If item values are declared on an FOB basis (or nothing declared), 20% towards Freight Cost and 1.125% towards insurance cost is added extra to the value declared, to arrive at the CIF cost.

C&F (Cost and Freight): If values are declared on a C&F basis, 1.125% Insurance Costwould be added to the C&F Value to arrive at the CIF Cost.

Customs Clearance Hours
Customs is closed on Sunday and Every 2nd Saturday of the month is observed as a holiday.besides this special day customs normal working hours between 1030 hours to 1700 hours only.All Samples, Gifts, Packages are processed during this hour.

Goods Prohibited or restricted for carriage into India on the COB Mode :
Currency in any denomination or form (unused stamps, unused activated traveller cheques,activated credit/debit card etc.
Individual packages weighing over 70 kgs each.
Maps indicating incorrect boundaries of India.
Perishables.
Precious Metals - Gold, Silver etc.
Gems and Jewellery
All items that require testing by regulatory authorities (such as Chemicals, Powders, Liquids etc.).
Plants and parts thereof.
Animals and parts thereof.

Repair and Return Charges :
Items that are exported from India for repairing and again import repaired products are levied Duty on:
To-and-fro Freight Cost
Insurance Cost
Repair Cost

2.Imports: Consolidation
Blue Dart Express Limited's dedicated agent is responsible for Imports Consolidation and he receive Consolidation.All the Consolidated shipments from different locations are received at Mumbai.After landing at hub Concorde International sends Cargo Arrival Notice to the consignee.
